Diamond's Viper 330 announcement is nothing (in itself) to worry 3DFX longs.

If you were familiar with Diamonds product line you would realize that the original Viper 330 used the RIVA 128 engine with 4MB. It's hardly surprising that they would upgrade the product to the 128ZX with 8MB -- I'd be more surprised NOT to have seen this announcement, considering that the board is selling decently for them. IMHO.

You said:
It looks to me as if Diamond's 2D/3D business is going to NVIDIA.

You say that as though it were a matter of opinion? <g> Diamond's 2D/3D biz HAS gone to Nvidia -- that's not the interesting question. The interesting question, which I believe you are really asking, is: will Diamond pick up Voodoo Banshee? If they do, will it replace the 128ZX? If so, will Diamond run with V/B against TnT?

My guesses, judging by Diamonds chip-core selection history, are Yes, Yes, No.

Kevin, good job finding that Diamond announcement about the Riva 128ZX. I'm not worried about it though. For a long time, Diamond has bell selling boards based on a variety of chipsets. Shoot, right now I'm typing on my Dell 400Mhz machine which came with a Diamond FireGL 1000 Pro (based on Permedia). (Of course, it's hooked up to 2 Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode for gaming ;-). Diamond will never be a one chipset company and I totally expect them to announce a Banshee based board as soon as TDFX lets them (sigh...).
