DavidG,

they still have $750 million from TXN which they don't have to pay back

Dave you make so many factual errors that I'd be here all day trying to correct them (g) ... for some reason I couldn't let this pass ... they do have to pay back the $750M .... in fact, they have to pay back $950M in 7 years ....

Actually, Appleton is pursuing a sh*t or bust strategy (which given their dire straits is exactly the right strategy IMO) ... so 7 years from now MU will either be long bust (less likely with the $750M cash infusion) or healthy and TI will have converted $740M of the $950M debt to stock.

regards, Mike

>...maybe the other thing is they can just close down the TXN sites and sell off the fabs and buildings and get some more cash while reducing some capacity

Uh, TI practically GAVE THIS STUFF AWAY, just to get it off the books.

INTC was going to build a new FAB in the same general area and has put it on hold, despite having land, approvals and plans ready to go. Then they shut down one of the NM FABs for "reconditioning" with no stated re-opening date.

Who's going to buy it?

>>Maybe they can show some profit on TXN chips since they got the equipment for nothing.
Then they can start selling off their Boise plant which is losing money.<<
