3ComBoy,

It was very interesting to learn that you work
for 3Com on the USRX side. So I wanted to ask you
some questions...if confidentiality is a problem then
don't worry about answering. I'll understand.

1) I want to make sure I got something right a few
days ago from checking on Jabil and from fellow poster
David Lawrence. It seems that the USRX side of 3Com
does not contract out work to Jabil, except possibly
for the Palm Pilots. Can you confirm this? I think
this is important because there may be some association
between 3Com x2 modems and Jabil stating that there was a large slowdown of orders from a communications company. 3Com uses
Jabil quite extensively. I think some people may be associating
a weak earnings report on the x2 modems because of the
weakness in Jabil's revenues. (Jabil stated that sales
revenues will be flat for the next few quarters).

If USRX modems don't have anything to do with Jabil, then
this implies the Jabil/USRX association is ill-founded.

2) Also, how is moral at the USRX plants? Are the layoffs
affecting moral? Do people around there feel that production
output is becoming more efficient or robust? Any comments
on this would be appreciated. Do people there notice
what COMS stock price is doing, and if so, what's their
reaction?

Thanks,

joe

"Option International Announces First Pocket-Sized Digital Wireless Modem for the 3Com PalmPilot Organizer and IBM WorkPad PC Companion"

June 16, 1998

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Option International, a
world leader in digital mobile data communications solutions, Monday announced North
American distribution for the Option Snap-On(tm), the first Global System for Mobile
communications (GSM) digital wireless adapter for the 3Com(R) PalmPilot(tm) and Palm
III(tm) connected organizers, and for the IBM WorkPad(tm) PC companion.

The company will be demonstrating the product at PC Expo in New York, June 16-18, in
conjunction with Omnipoint Communications (Booth No. 614, lower level, Jacob Javits
Center).

The Option Snap-On, in tandem with a GSM-based handset, offers instant access to the
Internet and e-mail, as well as the ability to send faxes on the go.

"We have had enormous success with the Snap-On adapter in Europe, where GSM
mobile users update such vital information as customer records, diary and schedules,
order entry and much more while on the move," said Jan Callewaert, president and CEO
of Option International.

Option Snap-On adapter easily snaps on to personal organizers and is bundled with a
full version of HandPhone from Smartcode.

"Option Snap-On adapter helps keep mobile users up to date on their most critical
information, from wherever they may be," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic
alliances and platform development for Palm Computing, a 3Com company.

As GSM technology rolls out in more and more regions across the United States, its
many advantages over older analog cellular systems are becoming apparent to users.

"GSM is clearly superior for voice mobile telephony, in terms of the quality, the range of
advanced features and the complete security it offers, " said Tim Bajarin, president of
Creative Strategies, a market analyst firm based in Campbell, Calif.
