A Possible Public Source for Sensitive Microsoft Internal Documents

From Thesasource, June 19, 1998. Afternoon Eddition:

"Finnish Firm Discovers Unusual Internet Virus
Espoo, Finland,-based Data Fellows announced yesterday its company had discovered a new Microsoft Word virus that steals user documents and then proceeds to post them on Internet newsgroups. Referred to as the WM/PolyPoster virus, this Internet-enabled virus is capable of spreading to every Word document on a user's hard drive and then spreading to other computers. It also only activates during random intervals, being dormant during most of its life. The posted documents even appear to having been sent by the user, complete with his name, email address, and signature."

The platform sure seems to support an unusual number of technically innovative viruses. How long has this one been around?

Hal
