Jim, Without look at the market capitalizations and not knowing the details of the exact holes ERICY is trying to plug, I have seen the following names mentioned today ; FORE XYLN PAIR SHVA MRVC Of these FORE and MRVC is may be the best bets for a take over. FORE is the leader in ATM over LAN. It has some WAN ATM products. MRVC is a player in the gigabit ethernet for LAN market. INTC has a position in this company. XYLN has its Ominswitch product which allows different LAN technologies to talk to each other. It is closely tied to IBM. Most of its sales come through the re-sales agreement with IBM. PAIR's strength is HDSL. This is an aging technology though that should be replaced by ADSL. SHVA was strong in access concentrators. It is not much of a player anymore. Most of their growth depends on the growth of VPN (virtual private networks) according to management. This involves more software than hardware. This Thomas's favorite short. However, says phone company is looking to purchase 10 smaller U.S. networking concerns, and is currently in talks with 3 of them. Hence, would expect smaller-cap names in group to be in play this morning, e.g. PAIR, SHVA, MRVC, FORE. Each of these stocks indicated slightly higher this morning.
