Gerald, Paranoid I would not think so - let me explain:
The imbedded technology is the ICE, however there are certain problems
with it. It is dirty - high emmissions and it has low effiency.
Now there are billions invested in this technology if not trillions and there is an in place power source. Now if these companies which have this investement in the ICE can improve its efficiency of a proven technology and lower the emmissions what do you think they will do. Go with what they know and understand or go with a new system which while it has promise is unproven, may not be commercially viable
and does not have a fuel distribution system in place.
Companies like Mercedes Benz do not even know what the outcome may be,
so they are buying into both sides Ballard and Orbital Engine and if you are familiar with Seimens they are not normally considered a paranoid company - oh by the way Seimens now control the leading position in Solid oxide Fuel cell technology and have a plant on line in the Netherlands which they acquired in the takeover of Westinghouse Power Generating Div. This system competes directly with the Ballard stationary unit. Anyway Seimens is also in on the deal with Orbital.
The reason I put this information on the Ballard thread is because
some of the people here are interested in cutting edge technology , wheather you like it or not there are links between fuel systems, fuel cells and the companies involved.
Regards
John

<<<Are they making cars the size of cell phones?>>>...Don't be ridiculous Gerald...that would be useless. I think what Hockaday has in mind is making a cell phone the size of a Buick !!! <G>
