John,

Re: "Since it costs AMD only $3 more to make a K6-2 chip, I'd say getting
$27.00 more for the chip, and higher sales, is a good return for the shareholders."

Well I am glad to see AMD is able to price the AMD 3D-LATER a little
above the old K6 ... but ... Why don't you take a look at how Intel
leverages their technology and is able to price appropriately. <ggg>

Xeon-400-512K L2.....$1100
Xeon-400-1M L2.......$2700
Xeon-400-2M L2.......$4500

Now this will give a good return to shareholders ... BTW, AMD's $27.00
price adder still leaves the K6 3D-LATER selling below cost. Remember,
AMD even selling 2M (K6 + K6-2) will still lose money in Q2'98 ... bummer.

John,

Re: "Good return for the shareholders."

Here is how Intel is going to give "good return" to its shareholders -->

eet.com

"showcasing Xeon in a professional-video application,
Intel is telegraphing some unexpected thinking.
Namely, that it is positioning Xeon not just for servers
and engineering workstations, but as a powerful
engine for professional digital-content creation as well."

This could significantly increase the number of "high-end" Xeons sold.
