That's not entirely far-fetched. Have you checked out the list of what companies make up the Dow Jones Industrial average? Most are slow growers, and many are likely to be companies you have never heard of 20 years from now. Of all the drug companies in the world can you imagine that they chose Merck to be in their index?

Of course Dow Jones periodically freshens the list, removing the buggy-whip manufacturers and replacing them with fresh companies like Alcoa aluminum. Waterhouse Securities just started a "Dogs of the Dow" fund which includes all 30 companies. There's a reason the Dow has historically lagged the S&P - an index of firms chosen by a newspaper company - one that publishes Barron's at that. Can you imagine a worse place to go for investment advice? Consistently wrong.

The Dow is flawed in that it can't include MSFT. If MSFT were traded on the NYSE, it would be part of the Dow 30, so ipso facto, it could never exceed the combined value. I do agree that MSFT can't continue to double every year, but I've been anticipating the fall-off in growth for the last 3 years, and it keeps surprising me. I sold all of my MSFT last year. Boy, was that a mistake <slap to forehead>.

Mr. Aloha,
I couldn't have said it better!@!!!! Very simple, MSFT has a monopoly. The Gov. gonna strip them of it and they will be finished. Not to mention that the employees are compensated with stock options which never show up as salary expense which groosly overstates their EPS think about that one.!!! They have a 23 billion... Yes BILLION.$ stock option liability that has been hidden from expenses on their income statement. Figure that into the pe.... also, on a monthly chart MSFT has put in a major top.. Better sell it now, cause we won't be trading it higher from here on. SPEEDY================================
