'In announcing the task force, House speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said in a prepared statement that the Clinton administration has paid little attention to the Year 2000 problem, which "has put many federal information technology systems at risk."'

Petro Retail Net : 'The embedded microchips utilized in industries worldwide is staggering. '

'Economies worldwide are reliant on taking raw materials and converting them via manufacturing processes into useable products for consumption and business and infrastructure growth. The petroleum marketer plays a critical role in making that happen by providing fuels and lubricating products that move products along the process pipeline from raw material to finished goods.

The use of the microchip technology in embedded control systems has allowed for significant automation and increased efficiency within manufacturing processes, supporting distribution networks and product and parts vendors. Just-in-time inventory is now more a norm than an anomaly. But a chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

As a case in point, in May, 1997, Chrysler tested 3,000 machinery operating devices in one manufacturing plant, and 52% exhibited some sort of year 2000 problem. The embedded microchips utilized in industries worldwide is staggering. England, recognizing the problem, had a company go out and test embedded microchip systems in machinery and the results showed a failure rate of 15%.
