It wouldn't be worth the effort to add 3.5" floppy capability to Zip as that's a major design task that wouldn't be worth the effort. I also don't think increasing the Zip capacity to 200 MBytes is worthwhile, especially when you consider the design and production conversion costs. But increasing Zip to 400 MBytes or higher would be worthwhile as that might start another run on Zips.

However, a small caddy? for plugging in a floppy and IDE Zip and other units with a USB connection might be a very nice peripheral system. Maybe Eagle's Nest like?

That's true for just about all starters. I've managed to outgrow all hard disks over time. In time, even the starters graduate to continuous users and will fill their hard disks.
