IMO in this fast paced world we like quick fixes: can't get it up, take a pill. Not feeling so good, take a pill. So we think that now that Japan's economy is feeling and acting depressed, we think that a politicians' weekend meeting will fix it all. Good luck to them.

The consensus seems to be that Asian problems are here to stay for a while. I am usually very skeptical about the consensus, but based on the Latin American experience this seems reasonable. I wonder how long it will be before HK will be forced to devalue, can't have such high interest rate differentials and remain pegged to the dollar.
