Chinese Vendors Deregionalizing DVD Players

Chinese vendors of DVD players are reportedly disabling the feature by which each player is coded to a specific geographic region, enabling users to purchase movies made anywhere in the world, said David Andaleon, director of strategic content development at C-Cube Microsystems Inc., Milpitas, Calif. The "regionalization" feature was included in the content-scrambling system chip to give film distributors more control over pricing and release dates.
