Dog,

You are miss interpreting my posts. My point is the numbers we have up to the second quarter sales of CPQ as reported by Dataquest and IDC are for sales to the channel not sales through to the end user. A secondary point is the balance sheet and income statement as reported are distorted by the inventory behaviors and price protection in the channel.

Now, I am not disputing that CPQ may have changed its incentives and internal reporting requirements to remedy this problem. To the extent that this is the case, I think it is good for CPQ and the industry as a whole.

However, the numbers to date that we are getting from Dataquest and IDC are not true measures of market share and growth because they are based on sales to the channel not the end user.

As to your comment :
"The only thing that gets returned to CPQ is bad units, just like Dell. "

It is clear that this has been true until recently. So my point stands.

Read it for yourself:

"Stock balancing was a method to get a more desirable mix of products and usually resulted when resellers were buying product to hit their numbers," said Pocock. "(With the new terms and conditions) we are encouraging the channel to carry no excess inventory over their true demand."

My opinions ( as I stated them) are not erroneous and were based on the CRN article and many other sources.

Your post is actually curious, in that it supports what I said and attributes what I did not say to me. Interesting tactic. Did you study at the CYNIC school?
