. . . . and once you've found PIN 1 -

take a paint marker, not a 'magic marker' but one with opaque full-coverage (unipaint), and mark the cable header as well as the board or drive, so when (not if) you have to disassemble it later, you'll have done the research and everything will go back together correctly. Saves time, adds confidence, and much easier to find microscopic numbers or markings when everything is apart.
