SOROS:

I am sure you have quite an intellect too. But you are deceiving yourself with a conundrum that really does not exist.

First, Reason is your friend. It is reason that has brought man to the brink of the stars and has elevated us from the cave. Make no mistake: no magical force, no special favor from a deity raised us up. We did it ourselves by using reason. (Of course, when I say "we" I mean a very small minority of the human race. Most of humanity would still be in caves if it were not for the men and women of reason throughout history.)

To say there is more evidence of the existence of Jesus than George Washington is an historical untruth. There is great doubt among historians, even some christian historians, about the life and real existence of the man the apostles referred to as the christ. Physical as well as historical evidence abounds that Washington existed. Including the fact that he has descendants living today.

You make a leap across an infinite chasm from reality into Never-Never land and declare something completely unfounded as suddenly being the Truth. This is the stage where you blank-out. You should spend a few weeks examining this critical point to discover the multiple errors you are making.

"Now you may say that He was the greatest mystic who ever lived. He fooled many. He continues to fool many today. Let's say you are right. What have I lost by following His teachings as best I know?"

Your thinking mind.

"If I follow His teachings, others will like me more."

Is the nature of your worth dependent upon what others think of you? If so, then you have no individual identity.

Your final questions all dealt with the fear aspect of the simple carrot/stick approach to heaven/hell that christianity has adhered to for centuries. I don't run my life on fear and I am not afraid of the unknown, I welcome it.
