I did not interpret this as Identix's inability to produce equipment. It appears that because the INS took over the fingerprinting process themselves and reduced the number of facilities from more than 300 private facilities to a few INS facilities probably staffed with overworked under trained public employees. The commissioner added, "the FBI is much less likely to reject fingerprints now because of smudges, incomplete data or other problems." Does smudges suggest inked prints? Meissner said, the INS will continue to increase staff handling citizenship cases, will add $ 600,000 in overtime pay and other backlog expenses in Los Angeles, and take other steps to move the stalled caseload. Any guesses how much of the $600,000 may find its way to IDX? And what happened to all the equipment the IRS was suppose to need?

Jean, on your INS link, it sounds like they better get out the old purchase order book and send in the P.O.'s. I'll bet they get the product very quickly! As always, there is probably more going on then meets the eye. Maybe securing money,locations and personnel. It is hard to find anybody to do anything right now! Sounds like it's on the front burner to me!
