<<<This Amazon making people millionaires while loosing money has been a pet pieve of mine right along.>>>

What are you suggesting, the the US Congress pass a law saying that anybody who bought shares during one of the nonpublic rounds of financing is not permitted to sell them until the company makes profits (rather than 6 mths after the IPO)?

What would this do to the ability of startups to raise money? What would happen to US innovation, and to US job creation? Would the internet still be a government/university project?

You bears complain about every time an insider sells. For the most part the insiders have NOT been selling, and that has a lot to do with why the market cap is so high. Quit complaining! The small float is what makes it so easy to squeeze the shorts.

Best Regards,
Tom

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 1998--

E-commerce Alliance Allows Tripod Users to Sell Books Online; Deal Also Extends Current Lycos Relationship

Tripod, Inc., (www.tripod.com), the fast-growing Web community, today announced that it has signed an electronic commerce agreement with barnesandnoble.com, the world's largest online bookseller. barnesandnoble.com will be the exclusive book retailer on Tripod.com, and will gain additional distribution power through the extension of its Affiliate Network with Tripod's more than 1.6 million members. With this announcement comes the additional news that barnesandnoble.com has extended its previous agreement with Tripod parent company, Lycos, Inc. (NASDAQ: LCOS), to appear as the lead bookseller on Lycos' popular navigation site.

Through participation in the Affiliate Network, Tripod members can sell books from barnesandnoble.com via their personal homepages on Tripod. Whenever purchases are made through these personal stores, the host member receives credit from barnesandnoble.com. This alliance comes hot on the heels of a similar announcement on April 1, 1998 of Tripod's agreement with CDnow, the leading music retailer on the Internet. Tripod's homepage builders are now offered the opportunity to build music stores attached to their personal sites with templates created by Tripod specifically for this purpose. Likewise, Tripod's bookstore template will offer members a simple and quick way to develop their own book commerce area on the Web.

"This alliance with barnesandnoble.com is yet another significant achievement for Tripod in the area of e-commerce," said Bo Peabody, CEO, Tripod. "This agreement showcases the strength of Tripod's loyal community of personal homepage builders for e-commerce providers -- especially with Barnes & Noble, whose leadership in the bookselling marketplace is well-known. Tripod is leading a revolution: the democratization of distribution. By allowing users to sell products like books on their own sites, Tripod users become entrepreneurs overnight."

"As we move our business forward, this relationship with Tripod exemplifies exactly where we want to be: linked with an established, leading online community," said Jeff Killeen, chief operating officer of barnesandnoble.com. "Our current affiliate program has more than 10,000 participants. With this relationship with Tripod and its more than 1.6 million members, we are expecting to significantly increase our traffic, visibility and distribution, while giving consumers greater access to the largest book retailer on the Web."

Tripod will be promoting barnesandnoble.com throughout its site via the Entertainment Zone and related "Pods" (communities of special interest). The opportunity to join barnesandnoble.com's affiliate network will be promoted through the popular Tripod Homepage Builder; it will be through this tool that members will be invited to open their own virtual bookstores.
