Hal, their is a tremendous momentum building in Asia right now, and particularly in Japan. The yen has been in virtual free fall, and even though the US and Japan may try a coordinated intervention to prop up its value, the consensus among analysts that I have heard from the region is that without substantive reforms in Japan, no artificial efforts to prop up the currency will stop the slide. As the yen tumbles, of course the regional currencies, and their economies go with it. Even now, that is building the pressure on the Japanese to do something, and quickly. Thus, I feel, either the whole economic system in SE Asia will go down this Summer, or the Japanese will begin the painful process of reform. Either way, now, I think we'll know sooner rather than later.
