Gingrich Wants $4B for 2000 Bug

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Saying the Year 2000 computer problem is bigger than the Clinton administration has admitted, House Speaker Newt Gingrich says Republicans will seek at least $4 billion in emergency spending to find a solution. Many computers that recognize only the last two digits of a year are expected to fail or malfunction Jan. 1, 2000 because they will read the date as 1900.
