phbolton, because in a mania it losses mean nothing, revenues mean everything, and perceptions of reality are distorted. YHOO will fall someday to 40,but who knows when,no way to gauge it. And if it did fall to 40,the company would be happy, the shareholders sad. You see that would be the best thing that could happen to YHOO. They could get a large corporation to take a stake,be more readily available to buyouts or mergers. YHOO now flies alone into an unknown future,at an unreasonable price, with a p/sales over 50,and possible decrease in revenues from advertising. Ask yourself this question? Where is YHOO in a recession, when all the ad revenues in new ventures dry up?
Where is YHOO when CBS and NBC turn up the heat on them.
They do no create anything, have no proprietary anything, what does YHOO have? Invisible swampland in a ficticious Florida, where DIS just bought the next lot.

>> Why is this "non-news"? "Yahoo! sees red Web directory says Viaweb charge, revenue slowdown will cause '98 loss" <<
ph- when you're in bull fantasy-land, all negative news is non-news.
Didn't you know that?
Revenue slowdown? Who cares? The hypesters just change the slant of the PR to emphasize "eyeballs" or "mindshare" or "space control" or some other nonsense. It's a con game. Wanna play?

>>Why is this "non-news"?

It's non-news because the factual portion was filed a week earlier, and the rest is (irresponsible) spin. The "revenue slowdown" mentioned in the article looks like interpretation by the journalist, based on disclaimers by the company that a revenue slowdown could have adverse consequences. Could have. "Revenue growth" is slowing because the base has grown much larger.

"Gloomy forecast" are the writer's words. There is no forecast at all, other than the results of the charge. Read the filing yourself. Don't depend on a cyberjournalist working for a Yahoo rival.
