[IP-Know How] hi super g. >>i am raising the question whether fujitsu is the orctf partner to provide all the IP-Know How for the CPE, backbone and Central Office Management, PPP over ATM,... solutions?<< when you say "IP-Know How", figure you're talking IP- internet protocal (not IP- intellectual property?) believe the answer is yes (in either case)- probably its fujitsu as the orctf ip partner in the big picture/longer term... tho for specific circumstances others including orctf are providing expertise to start with, don't know how closely you have followed the gte news, but gte/fujitsu/orctf adsl is basically (ethernet) IP (tho equipment is ATM capable)... this equipment is essentially a fujitsu/orctf rework of orctf's euro stuff for the american market with some frame relay customization for gte ... so orctf basically has this expertise to start with... and altho they are particularly tight with fujitsu they are also working with other partners (internationally) depending on circumstances... gte cpe stuff is currently being provided by orctf but expect eventually it will be passed off to an oem partner as yet un-named.. and expect the PPP over ATM expertise to primarily come from virata (previously known as atml) with whom orctf recently teamed up...biz.yahoo.com "ATML Demos PPP Over ATM" telechoice.com orctf and fujitsu are particularly tight here in north america where they have a mutually exclusive (5yr) relationship in respect to dsl products... expect we'll see the real integration (for both ip &atm) in the next generation stuff including central office and network management and soon onu's and network termination units ... as discussed earlier, seems fujitsu and orctf are taking this show on the road with their euro/asia alliance.. from the orctf/fujitsu "joint development and strategic marketing alliance" in march 97: " ... Over the next several years, the two companies will continue to pursue shared development, integration and marketing toward the release of mutual products. The tight cooperation between the companies includes a shared manufacturing agreement, which covers xDSL line cards, xDSL concentrators, management software and hardware and central office splitters. ... "There is a great synergy between the product offerings of Fujitsu and Orckit," said Martin. "DSL technologies enable a natural extension of carriers' broadband SONET networks. This alliance allows our two companies to address all of the carriers' access applications. The FACTR platform, integrated with Orckit's xDSL technology and products, can address all copper access applications, such as digital loop carrier and central office-fed lines. "Carriers can now migrate their various networks into a single, integrated one, with the added benefit of centralized management and operations ." fnc.fujitsu.com and since you mentioned cisco... with lu and nortel recently making it clear they are not interested in playing too much with cisco... "NORTEL, LUCENT SPURNED CISCO ADVANCES"redherring.com the cisco/fujitsu Global Systems Integrator Agreement... could turn out to be significant in the longer term (tho cisco is obviously an xdsl competitor): "..Fujitsu and Cisco also agreed to cooperate in securing interoperability between both companies' network management software.."fujitsu.co.jp am gonna skip fujitsu nexion (ATM-based multiservices switch due this month... sounds pretty cool) and fujitsu wdm as this post is long enuf.. also haven't been able to find anything on fujitsu packet over sonet tho would expect them to be working on it... what sorts of ip issues were you thinking of? the dt xdsl stuff is atm to the home... with connections to an atm backbone, doe this mean that the dt ip telephony stuff is ip over atm ? bye s
