I would like to mention the fact that in spite of stupid comments by some amongst the press/media, attempting to give the match between Iran and the USA some "political" and/or controversial overtones, the game was impeccably played.

There were no ill intentioned plays from either side, perhaps the skill could have been a tad better, but the game was played with passion, heart, lungs, and above all with excellent sportsmanship.

A great and exciting game, this is what soccer is all about.

A well deserved victory for Iran who played a smarter game and paid off.

For the USA a hard lesson to swallow, but one that will be beneficial for the future world cups, provided they learn from it, i.e. get rid of the bureaucrat, (give him a permanent post at the UN or some other idiotic job along those lines), get a Brazilian trainer, (Sorry, Bora will be going back to train the Mexican team), and the USA will be in fine form for 2002.

As to Samson's (that's the bureaucrat), comment to "vows to fight dewspite Iran's humiliation"...

Well, yes, that reminds me of Monty Python's movie scene where the moron knight, after having both arms and legs cut off in battle by his opponent, he too, "vows to fight on"....

As in:

Likewise, I guess being thrown out of the World Cup, is nothing more than a "flesh wound".....

On with the fest.
