What happened to people watching their PC?

Andy Grove visions of people watching their PC have been clouded recently by a couple of realizations.

#1) People don't want to watch movies on their PC's... CREAF, the #1 supplier of PC DVD technology last year (60% market share) is choking on inventories of the product.

#2) People aren't interested in Video Conferencing on their PC... I have a friend who runs a $200 MM Electronics Industry Venture Capital fund... He once worked for INTC... according to my friend Andy Grove spent $50 MM at INTC trying to create a Videoconferencing business, and that it hasn't produced any great results. He sees about 3-4 business plans per week trying to startup in this area, hasn't funded one of them...
