When I contacted the State of West Virginia (Geological Service), they said that they hadn't talked to MTEI at all.

Since the state will gladly tell them the extent of minerals under their land... why haven't they asked the state to do so?

A previous poster (maybe he received a death threat and left) noted that the estimate likely did not come from the USGS; rather, he said, the practice is that companies get mineral deposit maps from the USGS and then make the estimates themselves.

This would answer the question of why they need to bring Stagg Engineering in to get a reliable estimate.

If indeed, the company is making their own estimates, then all the information people are using to hype this stock is coming from the company.

The company thinks you should buy more stock. What a surprise.

How in the world would we as average investors have ANY idea if the mob was involved or not? It was Shell and crew who made that insinuation based on a note they had received.

We never said any such thing. If you return to my own first post on the subject, I said that the idiot who started all this was making a potentially damaging allegation that would do the company no good at all. Like you, I don't think we're really talking Uncle Vinnie here. I did, of course, say all this and more earlier today, but perhaps you, like others, prefer to skip over the posts of the Thread Lice.

...it gets tiring after a while.

Would you prefer unceasing personal attacks? Maybe some threats? Think that stuff doesn't get old?

Good to see that you don't actively support the physical threats, Juanita, but I did also notice that you stop short of condemning them.

"MTEI has by U.S. Geological survey results assets of about $200 million dollars."

OK, let's just for the sake of argument take that at face value (something I wouldn't recommend doing with real money involved). They are likely ballyhooing the gross delivered value of their estimate of the resource, a figure which does not in itself have any significance to the value of the stock today. Mines do not come cheap - you spend a lot of money delineating the resource before you get to spend a lot more money doing a bankable feasibility study, then you go on bended knee to the financiers. Then you have major cash operating costs. With the price of oil in its current state, I highly doubt that coal in the ground is worth much right now. And that is assuming that they have some.

The great majority of the stocks I've ever owned have been mining exploration juniors (not in dollar value, but in number of companies), and imho some basic principles apply.
Rule #1 - 'A mine is a hole in the ground with a liar on top'.

As to Stagg Engineering being a reputable company - that could be, but that's not the point. They will be hired to do a specific job, and may or may not do it honestly and accurately, but you will receive news of that job's results from the company. Watch out for weasel words at that point, especially. Bateman is an engineering firm whose good reputation is well know, but IPMCF used a contract with them to encourage yet more suckers to throw their cash down the Desert Dirt drain. Check the chart on IPMCF. Then check the SI thread - see all the strong supporters throughout '97? True believers. Some of them got left holding the paper.

Gotta go now, I'm neglecting my company. I only logged on this afternoon to show someone what SI is like - they got a bellyfull an hour ago -g-
