Most cable hooks upto your PC via an ethernet connection (10base T usually) (at least the external ones do). IMHO it would be much better for hotels to deploy cable modems for access rather than installing seperate phone lines as most of them are doing now in their business suites.

ADSL from a laptop should just be a PCMCIA (or PC Card, take your pick) swap away.

Steve Porter's response is on point, either technology is easily supported in laptops.
