I'm a bit leary of the funds during this week. I have areas when I will short but at this point I'm staying out of the thick of things.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm glad you mentioned that, about slouches in both areas. Prior management had struck horrible deals with ATT. I inherited 5 ATT techs for whom I paid ATT over 1.1 million annually. Working 6 days a week, they made more than I did.
I had serious cost control problems and certain items had to go. I negotiated with ATT to give me relief from the contract and I scaled out 3 of them. The first to go spent less than 50% of the time at the plant, so he went first. Lower rungs of white collar workers as well as the hourly people gave me a lot of heat about the decision, trying to fault me on the Vice President level.
Why? The guy was installing phones for them and providing them with outside and long distance lines when they had no need for them.
How do I know where my inventory is and (with several thousand employees) how do I find where overruns are with respect to outside phone calls.
Much like the tendency for people on managerial levels to look the other way when a salaried person takes time off to study for an exam at night school or come in late because the family has a new addition in the form of a baby or for whatever reason....the first rank of salaried employees and the hourly workers look out for each other particularly if it suits their purpose.
Anyway, enough of this stuff......I left that environment because of the low pay/high pressure. I worked on both sides of it and I wish to have nothing to do with going back to it. I intend to do everything I can to steer my kids away, as well.
