Electronic presentment gives back to consumers what preauthorized debit deprives them of: control over when and how much to pay. Cardpay adds that it saves consumers the hassle of going to more than one place to view their bills. That's because other presentment options being considered would entail, it says, moving around between the Web sites of banks, billers, and consolidators (unless one of the latter succeeded in signing all billers).

Checkfree spokesperson, Matt Lewis responds that the customer gets to Checkfree through the bank's Web site. "Electronic bill presntment should make it easier, not harder," he says. "But," he adds, "if you want to use your microwave to do this we'll figure out a way to do it!"
