Maybe another kind of "tie ratio" should be considered. Once a person commits to the Zip format and invests in many, several, or even a few Zip disks, she/he will likely buy another internal Zip drive in their next PC. This in turn will help make Zip the standard in high capacity removable drives. (This type of repeat business is not a issue for internal or external hard drives.) Over time the need for more disk space of all types (i.e., removable as well as nonremovable) will continue to increase as file size grows, and people with Zip drives will buy more Zip disks. In the best possible scenario, file size growth will eventually make the floppy completely useless, the price of Zip disks will gradually fall to a few dollars, and the Zip will replace the floppy.
