Petz - Re: " AMD will sell about 8,000,000 K6-2's this year. Since they make $24 more per chip ($27 higher ASP minus $3 additional expenses), the additional 192M gross profit easily covers the 128M R&D in the first year of production. "

Keep repeating this stuff.

Maybe you will even start to believe it!

P,
Re -- AMD will sell about 8,000,000 K6-2's this year. Since they make $24 more per chip..

Of course add in some price cuts by Intel to the SOUP MIX and you've got the $24 more per chip DISSOLVING rather quickly.

But keep up your calculations. We all need to laugh.

John,

Re: "However, if you figure the R&D for the Xeon at 10% of Intel's projected '98 R&D ($2.8B)"

What a "silly" assumption, John ... As usual based on your assumptions
John, "Garbage In, Garbage Out". The 400mhz and 450mhz Xeon's are fabricated
on Intel's .25um process. This process has already been paid for by all
the PII currently being shipped ... Hint: That's why Intel is making billions
in profits this quarter. I'm sure based on "Petz's Math Made Simple", you
will try and convince everyone on this thread that Intel should try and
lower their ASP's and ship more low priced CPU's.

Make It So,
Yousef

Re: "If they sell a half million of these still-overpriced chips, at an average $500 additional profit above the standard P2-400, they will still make 250,000,000 on them. "

Where do you get only $500? With an ASP of $3690 I see it as nearly $3000 additional profit. That would put their added profit at $1.5 Billion with virtually no added R&D.
