Could NSCP's bath today be having an influence on NOVL

See my post #22843 for the article where IBM chose to dump the Netscape web server in favor of the UNIX based Apache.

The question is whether Novell's enterprise strategy for being an Internet leader conflicts with IBM's?

OFF TOPIC (Information about Novell, the company)

Highlights from a Novell research report provided by a good friend, some of this I have seen here already, some I have not -

- Industry sources indicate that MSFT NT 5.0 will be available late 1999, early 2000, six months later than street estimates.

- Novell has 200,000 beta copies of Netware 5.0 in test vs 35,000 Netware 4.0 when it was tested.

- "First Look" will allow customer to buy Netware 4.0 today and for additional 20%, install Netware 5.0 when available.

- Deferred revenues from First Look will be taken in July 1998 quarter.

- Management goal is to achieve 20% operating margins within 18-24 months.

- Novell's cash position of $1.08 billion will increase by $100 million due to a tax refund from the government in the July quarter.

- Novell has 200,000 beta copies of Netware 5.0 in test, and is anticipating launching October 1998.

- Netware 5.0 will have a one year time-to-market advantage vs. NT 5.0.

- Novell has a third generation directory service vs. first generation directory from MSFT.

- Management expects a minimum of 50% of its installed base of 79 million nodes will use ZEN, at $39 per node.
