Totally agree with you (and Jess) that quantifying Japanese "bad debt" is nearly impossible, and it is also a dynamic that changes with time anyway. Just thought I'd put the link there, FWIW.

P.S. I can tell you definitively that yes, nearly ALL economists from UCSB are more knowledgeable than those from UCSD. That's been my experience, anyway ;-)
