Here is a really great discussion of enhanced oil and gas recovery technologies as well as some forward looking ideas on the state of the US Oil Industry by Patricia Fry Godley (DOE) before congress. Really interesting stuff here and give one a better understanding of the technologies available for enhanced oil & gas recovery.
