US monitors timing of possible intervention-Rubin

biz.yahoo.com

<< U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin said on Friday the United States continued to monitor closely the timing of possible intervention.

He said that sometimes intervention was appropriate, and sometimes it was not. Rubin, on a visit to China as part of a tour by President Bill Clinton, repeated that the key to the yen's stability was Japan taking action on its economy.

He said China and the whole world were very focused on the Japanese economic situation.

Rubin was speaking to reporters after meeting central bank governor Dai Xianglong, Finance Minister Xiang Huaicheng and Prime Minister Zhu Rongji.

''They are very focused on the economic situation in Japan,'' Rubin said. He said concern was expressed about the adverse impact of the weak yen on the region. >>

Standby, Rubin and Clinton awaiting new orders from China .... Amazing what you get for a big political contribution.
