Don't you think that RDRAM is targeted for top of the line servers based on Xeon, and then Merced (plus Alpha, SPARC?) CPU chips? Of course, it's overkill for desktop PCs, whether of standard issue business or home variety.

No I see RDRAM being positioned for every market. Overwise we wouldn't need 50 companies to support it. If it is just destined for the server market and we have 50 companies in on it, it will end up being CHEAPER than normal ram and then it will filter down into the "normal" market.

I like RDRAM, don't get me wrong. My problem is with anyone who thinks there will be big $$ in it for any length of time.
