Division I Coaches Discover Benefits of Digital Video

Business Editors

PARK RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1998--Sony
Electronics and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) have
teamed up to educate college football coaches on the benefits of
documenting practices and games through the use of state-of-the-art
video technology. Sony is currently supplying DVCAM(TM) professional
digital video equipment to selected Division I-A institutions to
showcase the technology developed by the company.
According to Robert Ott, vice president of VTR marketing for Sony
Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Group, DVCAM equipment will
offer these coaches excellent video quality in harsh conditions, long
running time on lithium ion batteries and DVCAM video cassettes, as
well as easy editing with pristine "cloned" duplicates for
distribution when editing is done.
"There is no mystery as to what coaches and their video
coordinators are looking for in a video system. They need good video
quality, durable and easy-to-use equipment and reasonable costs," Ott
said. "The DVCAM format offers exceptional pictures, reliable
equipment and simple operation at prices similar to SVHS equipment,
which many of these schools were using. Sony's line made this program
easy to enact because it offered everything athletic departments
need."
"We are always interested in making sure our coaches are aware of
the latest technology available being used in this profession," said
AFCA executive director Grant Teaff. "This enhances their professional
growth and at the same time allows them to to do their jobs more
effectively. We have developed a cordial relationship with Sony and
appreciate what they are doing to educate our coaches and support
other programs."
According to Teaff, the first schools to participate include the
University of North Carolina, Syracuse University, Brigham Young
University, University of Georgia, Ohio State University and Baylor
University. More schools in other divisions are expected to be added
as the program is expanded.
