Fine post, shalom! the Jesus Seminar votes on what Jesus said to decide if its authentic. They vote with beads: Red bead = Yep, Pink bead = probably, Gray bead = doubtful, Black bead= completely false The Jesus Seminar has declared that 82% of Chist's words are doubtful. Only one quote from Mark's Gospel was acceptable. Luke was said to be so full of propaganda as to be "beyond recovery." All but 3 lines of John got the black bead. They're dedicated to pulling down the Son of God. He was a wise man maybe, a marginal Jew, a social reformer--anything but mankind's Saviour, the Son of God. What was in it for the writers of the New Testament? Some of my friends and I are making up a myth about a visitor from heaven: He's the Son of God He can command 12 legions of angels He heals the sick, raises the dead, walks on water He feeds thousands with a few fish and loaves We're his apostles His enemies come and grab him We run away God doesn't even try to save his Son, They kill him Wouldn't we say "everybody ran but us?" Now comes the hard part. It's all fake, but 50 days after he's killed we get 3,000 believers, many from the same town, to commit to follow him. They'll be put out of their churches, rejected by their families, hounded, persecuted, fed to lions, get no pay, no titles, no honor, and have a lifelong job of preaching our hero in all lands; and THEY DO IT! When they take us away to die we can get out of the fix by denying Him to save our skins. But we're so stupid we let them kill us, nobody rats, we die for a fiction that wrecks our lives. Our fiction becomes the world's best seller, in 3,000 languages, 3,000,000,000 copies surviving every attempt to destroy it for thousands of years. It has stuff like: Love your neighbor as yourself, Love your enemies Seek first the Kingdom, Blessed are the meek Blessed are they that mourn, Don't retaliate Everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her hath committed adultery in his heart. Unlikely story!
