Suresha I was wondering the same thing about LU. I've been meaning to call someone on this topic. Perhaps there is a strategy/M&A type who knows the answer.

As for CSCO & STRM, Chambers says it worked and it was the only way (being able to say they had an 'end to end solution') they could've broken into the high end market. They have ~28% of the ATM market today. He says they had some "product issues, but it's all going to be fine in the next generation products".

LU needs to do something to move into the data world real soon. Don't think CSCO is done with acquisitions. They will acquire 10-15 companies during the next 12 months. Everyone is trying to find small companies. I don't know if you remember Hank Zannini from the old days. He co-founded a company called Avici. NT already took a 20% market share. They are working on gigabit ethernet.
