Slot2 is intended for workstations as well as servers. I don't think many of us need 8-way systems on our desktops while a 1 or 2-way system may be just the ticket.

Agree with you 95% there. But a lot of high-end rendering software and cad packages will now natively support upto 4 CPUs (i.e. they are designed to run on upto 4 way SMP systems). I know a couple of firms who are using quad-PPro because they can squeeze times down further. So some of the market will wait.

For the highend, yes this will hurt Intel a little, no doubt about it.

Yeah this puts a 2 month dent into Intel's "very highend server" market penetration.

As for high profile slips, I guess it's what happens when you have high visibility.

And don't forget the prevailing attitude in the market today "let's beat the $hit outta the tech stocks".
