Tom, you forgot another difference. Last year MR heads were a new technology, so the waste rate was higher. Since they could only test a head by attaching it to a suspension and spinning a disk next to it, they also lost a lot of wires and suspensions when the heads failed.

Now, I believe they have improved the yields a lot, and they have some new tests which weed out a few more bad heads before they are attached for the spin test.

Don't know how many, but I figure it's enough to warrant mention.

Like you say, Innovex making only less than 20 cents seems like a disaster, but when you compare that to the loss per share sometime greater than $1.00, it seems like a stellar performance. Iomega, WDC, APM, and Komag all seem to be near a bankruptcy.
