Don,
Yes I was looking at patterns. The 4/97 run was a bit stronger and steeper than the 1/98 run.We had become oversold recently and testing the moving averages as we did after the August high in '97.BUT then came the failed rally and the Asian concerns.(deja vu?)We have been locked into a trading range a bit too long with too many stocks underperforming. That doesn't say to me we have a very strong Bull market. But the market is full of surprises!<VBG>My best "guess" is a failed rally with heavier profit taking as we near the old highs.I still think we have a lack of sellers,so no bottom has been put in yet. Some say consolidation,I say the market is rolling over because only certain stocks are loved and I can't see overall sectors with consitent strength. In the past I have said that this market "wants" to go up,but lately it is saying to me it doesn't know what it "wants" to do.I don't know if I would buy puts today or tomorrow but as we get closer to 9100 it is tempting?I will watch the internals very closely among other things, including your posts.
Regards,
Barbara
