I think CPQ's plan is to develop a strong 64 bit story using alpha as the horse, since they can play to developers ahead of Merced. But I would look to them to shift to a strong Merced story as launch approaches. This is more than propaganda but a lot less than a shift away from Intel. They can build a big advantage as the only player able to drive development in the 64 bit space but they would lose that advantage quickly if they push Alpha against Merced in the general market. This stuff about Pfeiffer having a macho desire to beat his chest and best Intel is so much nonsense. He is a hard headed businessman who will do whatever it takes to take advantage of CPQ's strengths, not a testosterone-driven kid.
