Caution about NetPCs.

Hi Ted. Your vitriolic comments on CRUS over the past several years have ensured that this thread is not dull. I have lurked occasionally here, and based on your reasoning I sold a long position in CRUS quite a while ago at a loss, but far less of a loss than it might have been if I had held on. You were certainly right about single digits when so many others were awaiting the 30's. I am long again on speculation (and again at a loss), but at a far lower level which seems to be near bottom.

Anyway, in term of your thoughts on PCs, let me contribute my 2 cents. IMO there will be two significant trends in the future: towards a household device which will combine tv and pc in one machine, and towards a handheld device that will embody pager, e-mail, cell phone and other functions in one machine. The competition will be absolutely enormous for the handheld market, and any smaller companies that manage to make a few bucks in the early stages will IMO be trampled flat by the big boys within a year.

CRUS would be better advised to concentrate on niche markets or innovative concepts and stay out the of commodity side of the business. Even if NetPCs take off in a big way, I can't see how a company like CRUS could lock in profits from that source for very long.
