What happens if the dollar weakens? And what is your opinion on the dollar's direction?

If the doctor is in, here are some other questions:

Is the US economy ambivalent to trade deficits? Will the continued downward spiraling in Asian economies have no effect on the US economy? Is there no end to the American appetite to consume? Can the gobs of money being thrown at the market keep it afloat indefinitely? Why does this all look so grim to me and so good to everyone else.
