I usually don't pick a bleak month for my calls to expire, and October is notoriously so as we all know.....

To be truthful, I haven't looked at that one closely.

You may actually be in the money before earnings. MSFT collects a profits tax on the industry. It makes money irregardless of whether the hardware companies suffer. It makes money as a flight to quality stock. And you have two more cash register clicks ---- Win98 sales and the earnings report.
