network processors do lower the cost of production for networking vendors but saying NP's obviate the need for routing/switching is silly.

Also, NP's go into networking devices which DSC does not do. MMC does have some telecom customers but products based on MMC are not going into carrier-class products. They are in the Lucent remote access concentrator but that is because they were already in at Livingston when Lucent acquired them.

This company is at the forefront of a major revenue ramp from a percentage growth basis but we are talking about trivial numbers here so we got a long way to go before this is any gorilla. Lucent's microelectronics group is the real gorilla in communications silicon.
