<Pat is in the running for "Sexiest Man Alive>

That was intended to be funny, based on the ethnic issue from prior posts.

I can see this is getting out of hand. I have a lot of work to do and must take a pass for a while.

BTW; any who have watched a number of George Carlin routines may remember that, as an Irish-American, he preferred to call himself "Blue-Eyed Devil".

That is where I picked up the reference.

Jay. re Here I thought this was a bunch of high class traders. Now I find a pack of blue collar laborers. Boy am I surprised to find the people I've been reading are as low class as the people I work with!

ha ha. lisa and I are what you call people with depth. We have ate the dust, felt the raindrops, operated dangerous equipment, and sweated it out with the commonest of common laborers. These are things which build a person's character, and enable an individual to do what it takes to move on to other endeavors.

An eye! God, but no one could properly compensate me for that! I feel for you man....Tell me, is this why GM should "Fire 'em all"? I'm sorry if I'm connecting two unrelated events

definitely unrelated. If you will read my comments on the GM strike, I clearly outlined the reasons why I thought the union's position was wrong. I would add "antagonistic" and spoiling for a fight also, to describe the union representatives in Flint, MI.

Why not fire them? They don't want to work for less than $90K, and GM doesn't exist to subsidize unions. They exist to build automobiles, with the goal of selling said autos to people who want them.

As a member of a union myself, I find your words insulting. Does that surprise you? Were you looking for a reaction or was this just an unthinking comment? Heck, I can understand that. But if you think about it for just a moment, you will realize your words were no less offensive than the racist comments made on this thread not long ago.

let me get this straight. I say that because of the union's position, which is they won't work for less than $90K avg compensation per person, regardless of the factory losing money ($50M/year), is wrong, that GM should fire them. meaning that GM should try to find someone willing to work for a more reasonable wage; maybe someone who's not bitter and ungrateful, someone who might even enjoy their job. then if GM can find such candidates, obviously the striking workers would be issued pink slips.

And you say that's "as offensive as racist comments?" get a grip, guy. sounds kinda whiny. I'd say you're a little overly sensitve. I've had countless heated discussions on unions with my best friend over the years, and he and his dad have been pretty big on unions. neither of them have ever mentioned "offensive as racist comments".

What, in your opinion, should they get paid? Should it be more or less than you?

Why not let the market decide? put the jobs up for interview. I don't know what the magic number should be, but what I'm saying is $69K plus $21K in bennies is far more than most people make. We're talking a salary and benefits which can more than support everything that defines the American dream. If the job is really worth that and more, then union members should be unperturbed if GM wants to seek other bids in the open market. But something tells me union members such as yourself will start getting kinda upset, even talking racism. gimmee a break guy??

Think on it; but mostly, think on what you say

That's what I've been doing since I first commented on this situation. Right off, because I sided with GM, I was told to "go back to your croquet game".

repressed hostility, perhaps? definitely unhealthy.

Good morning Jay (and all). Took a trip up to Cape Cod with the girlfriend Wednesday morning and got back last night. Great time to say the least.

Can't say that I missed the ability to access SI for several days.
I find it humorous to come back to threats of action being taken against me for someone else's posts that I supposedly put them up to. Pretty tough to do when I'm 6 hours from my pc and thought this conversation was over with before I left work on Tuesday.

No matter...the topic is still over with in my eyes (and I hope it's over with for everyone else as well).

Time to catch up on some work.

Kevin
