To all:

I did not get to the thread today until after the market closed.

Gee Whiz, is this still the thread that prompted me to pay up for SI.

Took me 40 minutes to wade through all the post, many are OT, and quite nasty.

Everyone who wants to spew nastiness, why not go to the "James Cramer Hate Thread" or the "Moron Thread".

Please, let this thread stay at the level that led me to it..PLEASE!

Thanks to those of you who keep it clean and interesting.

Regards,
LG

I have tried to stay out of this Blue/White collar stuff..... But I must say that I am like a great many folks..... in which we have all filled all of the preceeding "Labels"....
I will say one thing about unions - although being from central Texas I was personally not associated with them as much as folks from other regions in my early years....

To relate :
About 10 yrs after high school I ran into a guy from school... I had known him but hadn't seen him since school... He was at K-mart looking at lawn equipment... We talked and he had a wife and 2 young daughters - he was 28 - 29 at the time...
Anyway because of the bust in the Central TX real estate/housing/building market (He was an electrician) He hadn't worked in 2 years and was on a list to get work....
I admired him as he was buying lawn equipment to try to make an income from that business... So, at the time, I had a good deal of electrical work which generally I took care of myself - I figured I could hire him for a few weeks work..he could make a few bucks and it would help me out alot...
I said as much to him and he said that if he took the work he could really screw himself up with the union... I realize that some might consider the job that I was asking him to do as as competing with unionized labor....
I am NOT against unions - I have always realized their original intent and aknowledge the good that they do / have done...but, when a man cannot engage in his trade to feed his family - maybe something is out of whack!

Putting on my flame retardant jacket,
Byram
