Key words from PRII:

<''In March 1998, based upon our expectation that industry conditions would start to improve in the fourth quarter of calendar 1998, we implemented certain short term cost control measures,'' said Joel Elftmann, chairman and chief executive officer. ''We now expect that industry softness will continue well into calendar 1999.(a) Therefore we need to realign our business based upon an expected lower sales level in fiscal 1999.''(a)

The Company expects fiscal 1999 sales to be 10 to 15 percent below the fiscal 1998 level.(a) As a result, the Company will be implementing certain long term cost reduction measures including an involuntary reduction in workforce>

Yes, it is yummy bear food, but more of an appetizer compared to the Micron main course. Micron, Novellus, PRII, Intel, have all recently shed some visibility on 1999. The flat BTB and AMAT bouncing at 26 moved me a step closer to buying, but I just took a step back again.

re: "You are getting far too optimistic"

AMAT was by far my largest stock holding from February 1996 through April 6, 1998. Looking at the stock chart, it's obvious that I began buying too soon, and sold too late. I've been far too optimistic in the past, but I'm learning.
