Did the babies hatch???? What happened??
There are these magic moments in life that you can recall very vividly-like snapshots. We were in Tucson at the Wildlife Zoo in the hummingbird cage. And Ammo's face as all these glorious tiny creatures surrounded him. What is so wondrous about hummingbirds?
We have a feeder but we haven't had a guest yet. ANd the sugar water is molding.

We once maintained a hummingbird feeder. But this weird greenish yucky stuff invaded it, and I had no way to clean it out.

One cold morning I took it in and refilled it. I went to hang it, but Mr. Buzz was impatient. There I was, holding the feeder at arm's length, and this cheeky little dude flies in and dips in&out of the feeder, backing off a foot or so every so often as if to warn me - "okay, no funny stuff!" Once he had his fill, it was a quick tug back on the collective to get the BAWK out of Dodge.

Mt Wilson? Angeles Nat'l Forest? So, you're out here in the Land of the Fruits and Nuts, too?

I have a pineapple sage and Gartenmeister fuschia just outside of my sliding glass door, so I get to watch lots of hummingbirds feeding. (Never have seen them hang out drinking piss, but maybe these are wimp hummers). I also have a blue see-through patio umbrella nearby. One day a hummer got underneath and couldn't figure out he had to fly down to escape. I got him to land on my finger, grabbed him, and freed him from his umbrella-prison.
