JMAR Technologies Awarded Additional $950,000 for Continuation of X-ray Lithography Source Development SAN DIEGO (June 24) BUSINESS WIRE -June 24, 1998--JMAR Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:JMAR), a rapidly growing provider of precision micro-technology systems and products, today announced that it received an additional $950,000 of contract funding from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), to continue development of the Company's Picosecond X-ray Source (PXS) for semiconductor lithography applications. With this funding, JMAR plans to continue the scaling of its PXS system to the higher power levels that will be required for the cost-effective fabrication of future high performance semiconductors. This award is the second installment of a new, larger contract that JMAR expects to negotiate within the near future. John S. Martinez, Ph.D., JMAR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "To manufacture the high performance circuits of tomorrow, leading semiconductor producers will need cost effective ways to increase circuit density, or place more electrical pathways into a smaller space. We believe that processes based on X-ray lithography technology - because they have the potential to far surpass the circuit density limitations of current optical lithography systems - will ultimately be the industry's technology of choice." Dr. Martinez continued, "JMAR's PXS technology is designed specifically to overcome certain industry objections to other current X-ray lithography approaches. We believe that our sources, once fully developed, will provide the industry with the basis for cost effective systems, no larger, physically, than the optical lithography sources available today but capable of producing circuit feature sizes of 0.18 microns and smaller." Pursuant to the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995: "The statements regarding the products, projects, or processes currently under development and the ability of the company to successfully introduce those products into the commercial marketplace or to apply or otherwise transfer those products, projects or processes to alternate applications are forward-looking statements based on current expectations that involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those set forth in the forward-looking statements, including delays in shipment or cancellation of orders, concentration of sales to certain markets and customers, timing of future orders, customer reorganizations, failure of advanced technology to perform as predicted, fluctuations in demand, delays in development, introduction and acceptance of new products, changing business and economic conditions in various geographic regions, natural events such as earthquakes, flood and fire and the other risks detailed from time-to-time in the company's reports which are filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission." JMAR Technologies, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets precision measurement, process control and laser manufacturing systems, provides custom semiconductor products for the microelectronics industry and is a leading developer of advanced lithography sources for production of future higher performance semiconductors. -0- blm/sf* CONTACT: Dennis E.
